Original Nintendo Games
The original Nintendo Games page. Some fun history: Nintendo was founded as a playing card company in 1889 and became famous when their game Hanafuda became heavily demanded. Hiroshi Yamauchi gained Disney’s favor and started putting characters on playing cards in 1956. He got some money and began investing. Nintendo tried their hand at a Taxi business, love hotel chains, a TV network a food company and more. They all failed.
The first video game venture was distributing Magnavox’s Odyssey console in 1974 and began making its own hardware in 1977. In 1966 the maintenance Engineer Gunpei Yokoi invented the Ultra Hand in his spare time and was quickly moved out of maintenance and into Nintendo Co’s development team. Yokoi was hit by a car and killed in 1997.
“A student product developer named Shigeru Miyamoto was hired by Nintendo at this time. He worked for Yokoi, and one of his first tasks was to design the casing for several of the Color TV Game consoles. Miyamoto went on to create, direct and produce some of Nintendo’s most famous video games and become one of the most recognizable figures in the video game industry” - Wikipedia
Miyamoto is credited with Donkey Kong which made its way onto the Atari 2600 system in 1981. Then in 83 Nintendo released the family computer or “Famicon”. We were introduced to the Famicon as the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985. 1989 Gameboy and the Super Famicon or, you guessed it, Super Nintendo. This was in direct competition with a company named Sega who also released a 16 bit system.
